Participating teams and qualification:
Following countries have registered for Deaflympic Basketball
Tournament 2005:
Africa:
Ghana
Asia/Pacific:
Australia (host country), Japan, New Zealand.
Europe:
Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden,
Turkey, Ukraine.
Pan/Am:
USA (defending champions)
Delisted:
Argentina, China, Sweden.
Qualification men:
Ghana, Australia (host country), China, Japan, New Zealand and
USA (defending champions) are directly qualified to the Deaflympic
Basketball Tournament.
During June 2004 the European Deaf Basketball Championships will
be played. In these Championships the ten (10) best placed of
those European teams which have registered for Deaflympics 2005
will be qualified to the Deaflympic Basketball Tournament.
In case of withdrawals from the Deaflympic Tournament, European
teams placed 11 and 12 in that order will be asked to take place
in the first hand.
Allotting into groups A, B, C and D for the Deaflympic Basketball
tournament will be conducted at date and location decided by the
CISS. In case the number of participating countries is less than
13 dividing into groups A and B will be conducted.
Asia/Pacific:
Australia (host country), Japan, New Zealand.
Europe:
Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Sweden, Ukraine.
Pan/Am:
USA (defending champions).
Delisted:
Argentina, Germany.
Qualification women:
All teams registered above are qualified directly. As the maximum
number of teams in Deaflympic Basketball Tournament is 16 there
are still possibilities of entering women teams
until a date decided by the CISS.
In case the number of participating teams finally exceeds 16
the last registered team(s) will have to play qualification game(s)
against that (those) exceeding 16.
Allotting into groups A, B, C and D for the Deaflympic Basketball
tournament will be conducted at date and location decided by the
CISS. In case the number of participating countries is less than
13 dividing into groups A and B will be conducted.
