Basketball Development Seminar / Clinic

General outlines of Seminar / Clinics

Development of Deaf Basketball:
Seminars for development of Deaf Basketball should be conducted by the CISS-TD and/or his assistant(s) or person(s) appointed in TDs stead. Each seminar contents the following head-lines:

1. Promotion activities of Deaf Basketball
2. Coaches Clinics
3. Referees
4. Functioneers - officials
5. Organizations, CISS – Confederations – FIBA

Conducted generally: Friday afternoon, Saturday all day, Sunday half day

1. Promotion Activities:
- Informing about International Deaf Basketball via the CISS
- Informing about Basketball and the FIBA and its member associations
- Basketball lectures for children, deaf schools and deaf clubs (men and women)

2. Coaches Clinics:
- Leadership
- Pedagogical – methodical working (training youth – women – men )
- Basketball rules
- Physical training
- Psychological – mental training
- Information about National Basketball Federations

3. Referees:
- Rules of FIBA
- Sign-languages
- Information about National Basketball Federations

4. Functioneers - officials:
- Secretariat
- Scoring Sheets
- Arrangements

5. Organizations:
- CISS
- Confederations (EDSO, PANAMDES, South-East Africa and Asia Pacific)
- FIBA (Council for basketball for persons with a disability)
- Organising deaf basketball on national and local levels

General principles on seminars:

  • To each seminar three deaf persons interested in and working for basketball will be invited from each country.

  • The gender perspective must always be observed and respected so therefore the countries will be encouraged to send at least one woman to the seminars, if so is needed we will contribute in the whole for the woman to participate.

  • The objectives are that the people participating in the seminars return home and try to either initiate the starting up and promoting of basketball in the country in question or organize it in within the frames of the National Deaf Sports Organization.

  • The objective should also be to give the participants the confidence to approach the National Basketball Associations to cooperate with them in different fields.

General budget for seminars conducted -
To each seminar must taken into consideration following expenses:

  • Travels for CISS-TD and/or assistant
  • Subventioned travels for participators (three from each country)
  • Lodging (hotel and food)
  • Renting of basketball-gyms and/or seminar-rooms
  • Lecture materials
  • When needed: Allowances (to poor countries for loss of wage)
  • Other expenses, 0_administration
